Hood River Elks Lodge #1507 held their annual fund-raising golf tournament for the Elks’ Student of the Month program on Saturday morning at the Hood River Golf and Country Club. The annual event was once again generously supported by the community through sponsorships and donations.
Each month during the school year the Elks honor one boy and one girl from local high schools for Community Service and Citizenship. Students of the month receive a $100 award. At the end of the school year two Students of the Year (one boy and one girl) are chosen and awarded $1,500. Recognition awards of $250 for boys and girls are also given. In the program’s eight years, it has provided about $50,000 to local students.
This year’s fund-raiser netted $7,000, with 80 golfers playing in 20 4-person teams during the scrambler format tournament.
