The Hood River Airport Days will return to the Ken Jernstedt Hood River Airport on Sept. 16 and 17.

The event will take off at 5 p.m. on Sept. 16 with airplane contests and remote-controlled model demonstrations.

Starting at 6 p.m. will be a steak and salmon dinner for $12 per person, and tickets for that event may be purchased before the event at Flightline Services or at the door.

The White Salmon Jazz Band will perform at 7:30, and a silent auction is scheduled that will benefit the nonprofit Columbia Gorge Aviation Association, a group that provides scholarships to high school students interested in aviation.

The day starts at 7 a.m. on Sept. 17, and admission to the event is free.

On hand will be airplane displays, flybys, airplane rides, classic cars and remote-controlled models.

Special this year is a display of antique aircraft and military vehicles provided by Terry Brandt of Hood River.

Rides will also be available in a 1930s vintage open cockpit Stearman biplane, provided by Chuck Hamm of Scappoose, Ore.

Breakfast will be served from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., and lunch from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The day concludes at 5 p.m.
