Re-dedication

of the Georgiana Smith Memorial Park

October 5, 2005

A picnic and concert follow Sunday’s ceremony re-dedicating the Georgiana Smith Memorial Park, next to the Hood River Library.

The community is invited to the event, which starts at 1 p.m. and includes a brief ceremony at 1:15 p.m.

Oak Street will be closed between 5th and 6th streets during the festivities, from 1 to 3 p.m.

The Hood River Library Foundation co-hosts the event, culminating the months-long park expansion and upgrades that have created walkways, benches, patios, new trees and shrubs, a pergola, handicapped access, and other amenities in the existing park and expanded portion at Sixth and Oak.

Following the speeches, Griffith Ford in The Dalles will sponsor a barbecue, and a concert is planned by local musicians Victor Johnson, Ben Bonham, Larry Wyatt, and Rick Hulett on the new Children’s Patio.

The community will have the opportunity to purchase a commemorative brick or make other donations in support of the park renovations.

The park renovation was paid for by donations from the community.

The park was designed by Marion McNew of Mount Hood Gardens, and the work was done by her crews and the public works crew of Hood River County.

Community groups and individuals have given sponsoring donations for benches, patios, trees, and other features, to support the project. These and other partners in the project will be introduced during the ceremony. Dollar scoops will be available at Mike’s Ice Cream, across the street.
