Phyllis (Dalleske) Mockler was born Aug. 16, 1934, in Wiggins, Colo. The younger of two daughters, Phyllis moved to Oregon with her parents, Ralph and Myrna Dalleske, to work in the hydroelectric industry.
She graduated from Hood River High School in 1952 after moving to the Powerdale plant on the Hood River. She married Derald Mockler, her husband of 51 years, in July of 1953.
Phyllis spent her career as a legal secretary working for various local attorneys in the District Attorney’s office, Records and Assessments and finally retiring from Hood River County’s Juvenile Department in 1998.
She and Derald spent many nights per week involved in ballroom dancing.
She enjoyed her adventures with her sisters in Beta Sigma Phi, playing cards and dominos with her friends and traveling with her husband and friends in their Good Sam group.
No sports event, musical performance, graduation, dance recital, birthday party or life event, however small, were celebrated by any grandchild without them.
Phyllis gracefully surrendered her battle with breast cancer on Dec. 21, 2005, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Portland.
She is survived by her sister, Jean Moore of Tennessee; daughters Jennifer Ashley and husband, Chuck, of The Dalles, Ore., and Jeannie French and her husband, Tom, of Kennewick, Wash.; and the four luckiest grandkids on the planet, Jake and Jesse Byron and Trux and Taylor French.
