Next year will be the 30th anniversary of the Hood River-Tsuruta Sister City program.
This year will be busy one for a program that bears a low profile considering the vitality of its efforts and the breadth of it scope.
The dedicated folks with the Sister City program are asking for more participation from the local community; with the anniversary coming up, this is a good time to get involved.
The next big event for Sister City is the annual benefit dinner, “Taste of Tsuruta” on Jan. 28.
If you have never tried this meal, mark your calendar: It is always delicious and a great starting point to find out more about Japanese culture — which is what Sister City is all about.
Further, the dinner helps support the Hood River middle school and high school student trip to Tsuruta planned for August.
In addition to the exchange to Japan, local families will host Tsuruta Junior High students at the end of March.
If you’d like to know more, attend the “Taste of Tsuruta” or call Betty Carrithers at 386-3276.
