The Port of Hood River announced Tuesday that Michael McElwee will be its new executive director.
The announcement follows an extensive three-month search. McElwee will join the Port July 1. He has been the development manager for the Portland Development Commission since 1991.
For his $85,000 salary, McElwee will oversee all Port operations stretching from the Port's Hood River Interstate Bridge to upper Hood River Valley industrial property.
"With the commission, I am anxious to increase communication and collaborative relationships with city and regional stakeholders," he said.
His accomplishments include development of the Eastbank Esplanade along the Willamette River in Portland, that city's Lloyd District Development Strategy, the MLK Jr. Boulevard Commercial Development Strategy and the Oregon Convention Center Blocks Development Plan.
