Two new developments draw attention to the Columbia Gorge Relay For Life.

Tuesday will be Relay For Life Day in the Gorge, according to a proclamation signed by Hood River Mayor Linda Streich.

On that day, everyone is encouraged to wear Relay gear and/or purple to support American Cancer Society’s Columbia Gorge Relay For Life scheduled for July 15-16 at Hood River Valley High School, a fund-raiser for the American Cancer Society.

Stop by one of the businesses listed below to pick up a sticker to support Relay For Life; wear the sticker along with your Relay gear on May 30.

Meanwhile, Relay for Life has announced “Idol Night in the Gorge” for June 23. The event is for anyone who wants to show off their talent and get out and have some laughs.

Contestants are needed for Idol Night, which starts at 7 p.m. at the Hood River Elks Club.

If you are interested contact: Suzy Coreson, (541) 490-2773 or Linda Nicewonger, (541) 308-0963. Prizes are $100 for first, $50 for second, and $25 for third.

Silent auction items will be available for bid and snacks will be provided. Cost is a $10 donation at the door for Relay For Life.

The 24-hour relay starts at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 15, and ends at 9 a.m. on Sunday.

Relay For Life organizers are seeking cancer survivors to be honored at the event.

A special survivor lap is scheduled for 10 a.m. with lunch provided by Subway at 11:30 a.m. Contact Kayla Monahan at 352-7330 or 806-1533 to register or to receive additional information regarding activities for survivors.

Luminarias to honor those with cancer will be lit at 10 p.m. during the relay. Purchase luminarias by contacting Pam Webster at (509) 493-4540. Forms will be available at all businesses listed above.

If you are interested in starting a team, please contact Terry Joyer at 386-5467 or Brandi Nelson at (509) 493-1468. The next team captain meeting is June 13 at 5:30 at the Best Western Hood River Inn.
