Electrathon America combines the challenges of ingenuity and creativity of design and engineering with the excitement and adventure of head-to-head racing. Participants plan and construct electric cars within certain specifications, then race them against other Electrathon cars at different locations around the country.
Hood River Valley High School’s Applied Engineering class completed the third of seven races in this spring’s Northwest circuit last weekend at the Willamette Electrathon Blast at Lane Community College.
Unlike characteristic racing, the goal is not necessarily to reach the fastest speed or cross the finish line first. The format is, most laps in a given amount of time wins. Vehicles run on two standard 12-volt car batteries and consist of standard electric motors.
