Senior day honors five softball stars

Senior day is bittersweet for high school athletes, especially in the spring.

On one hand, it’s a celebration of four years of hard work, friendship and unity together on the field and a thanks to the parents, fans and coaches that helped along the way. And on the other hand, it’s a sentimental saying-goodbye to the same teammates, coaches, parents and fans who made four years of high school sports what it was for each senior.

The Hood River Valley High School varsity fastpitch team held senior day on Saturday, during a double-header against Crook County. At the team’s last regular-season home games, the team said goodbye to seniors Rochelle Friend, Kayla Monahan, Chelsey Elliott, Meghan Flem and Stefanie Draper before trouncing the Cowboys 12-0 and 5-0 in the afternoon’s games.
