Dee Highway was closed for more than an hour Tuesday morning after a single-car collision with a power pole at 10:11 a.m. Lauris Pennington of Hood River suffered a cut above her eye after her vehicle slid off the highway and hit a power pole just north of James Road. The pole fell across the highway and one end stayed suspended by a taut power line about a foot above the ground. Traffic was detoured at Summit Drive because of the blockage and because sheriff’s deputies and firefighters were unsure if the line was live or not. Odell and Hood River departments responded. A Pacific Power crew arrived at about 10:35 a.m. and neutralized the broken line and removed the pole and line from the road. The outage affected only a few local customers. The accident happened shortly after snow began to fall heavily on the mid and upper valley.
