Despite missing two of its top skiers the Hood River Valley girls’ ski team came up with another victory on Saturday at Mt. Hood Meadows.

The girls team has yet to lose this season, and placed five racers in the top ten, including three in the top five. Ashley Kastner stepped up to lead the Eagles with a first place finish, while Jessica Ostler finished second and Claire Snelling finished fourth.

Whitney Fox finished seventh and Molly McCulloch finished eight to round out the top ten skiers for the Eagle girls. Toby Carratt finished eleventh to lead the rest of the pack.

“The fact that two of our top racers were not at the race and yet our girls still won not only shows the depth of the varsity team, but the depth of the JV group that’s coming up,” Coach Peter Nance said.

The boys’ side came up with a third overall finish in one of its strongest performances of the season.

“The boys had much improved first runs, but still came in third place…We have a real focus for the rest of the season to pick it up another level, especially on the boys side,” Nance said.

Colton Swearingen led the Hood River boys with a sixth place finish, while Sam Mears finished in eighth place. Tyler Sassara and Nick Maslen led the rest of the Eagle boys’ finishers, closing out in fourteenth and fifteenth place respectively.

The Eagle skiers will be back in action this Saturday with a conference race at Mt. Hood Meadows.
