The Plates are almost ready.
The Plates are one of the long-standing highlights of the Bite of the Gorge. Created by local artists who donate their time and materials for the fundraiser, The Plates are auctioned off during the silent auction at The Bite, which takes place from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, April 9, at WAAAM, the Western Antique Aeroplane & Automobile Museum, in Hood River. It's a 21-and-over event.
This year, 25 plates created by local professional artists will be on display and up for grabs, along with a host of other silent auction items at the annual fundraiser for Columbia Gorge Arts in Education, a nonprofit organization that coordinates artist residencies in schools in four Gorge counties.
"Artists who are part of CGAIE and other generous local artists donate their time and talent to create these plates," said local artist Sheila Ford Richmond. The Plates have become so popular that Richmond thinks some people collect them.
Tickets for The Bite are $45 and are available at Waucoma Bookstore and Community Education in Hood River, Klindt's Booksellers in The Dalles and Postal Connections in White Salmon.
