The Hood River Bagel boiled and baked its 100,000th bagel on Monday, Nov. 21.
"When we bought the shop in 2010, we were surprised that there wasn't a record of the number of bagels baked daily. We thought it would be fun to track the bagels we made and to share that with our customers," said Autumn Woods, owner and lead baker at the shop.
"Our staff started guessing how many bagels we would make, and then our regulars got in on the action. We started a contest in June to guess how many bagels we'll make in 2011."
Woods reports that many guesses have fallen well short of the current 100,094 mark. "We'll take guesses until Dec. 30. There's plenty of opportunity for someone to get their guess in and win the prize of bagels for a year," said Woods.
The prize for the closest guess, without going over the total, is a baker's dozen of bagels plus cream cheese each month for a year.
The baker's board is updated daily at the shop - and entries will be accepted until 2 p.m. Dec. 30.
Hood River Bagel is located at 13 Oak St., Hood River, and is open 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily.
The shop will be closed Christmas Day.
