The Hood River Valley basketball teams took its game on the road to open the 2011-12 season Friday, and the Eagle girls held on for a win while the HRV boys could not keep up their first-half momentum and fell to Wilson.
The Eagle girls got some hot shooting to start their game against Centennial, hitting four three-pointers in five possessions, and had the lead at half time. However they had to hold off hard-charging Centennial in a high-scoring fourth quarter to get a 59-53 win.
The Eagles shot particularly well from the free-throw stripe to ice the game, hitting 14 charity shots in the fourth quarter.
Logan Bailey led the Eagles with 18 points, while Emili Metivier added 13 and Katie White 11.
At Wilson the HRV boys started strong and trailed by just four at the halftime break. However the Wilson defense held HRV to just three points in the third quarter as the Trojans pulled away for a 55-33 win.
Ryan Wheat had 12 points and eight rebounds for HRV, while Justin Schultz had nine points and five rebounds and Cody Walker had seven points.
The Eagles girls returned home for a pair of games this week, hosting David Douglas Tuesday and Sprague Friday.
The Eagles boys are at St. Helens today and then at a tournament in Sandy this weekend.
