Graduating Hood River Valley High student killed in downtown accident

Update 6/11: Forest Andrews, a senior at Hood River Valley High School who was to graduate with his class Friday evening, was killed in a skateboarding accident Friday afternoon in downtown Hood River.

Andrews was skateboarding on Columbia Street when he was struck by a vehicle.

Andrews was honored at the graduation ceremonies at the high school Friday night.

The accident is currently under investigation and counselors where present at the school Friday and will continue to be at the school Monday.

6/10: A 17-year-old member of the Hood River Valley High School class of 2011 was killed in a skateboarding accident in downtown Hood River Friday afternoon.

The name of the student is being withheld pending confirmation of the notification of his family.

The student was scheduled to receive his diploma tonight at graduation ceremonies at the high school and the school district is working with students and staff on the situation.

A moment of silence will be held at graduation and students will wear black armbands.

Counselors are on the way to the school and will be present this afternoon and evening, as well as Monday.

The accident is currently under investigation.
