After an up-and-down start to the season, the Hood River Valley baseball team got rolling at this week's Glencoe Spring Break tournament in Hillsboro.
The Eagles won all three games of the tournament, capped by a rain-shortened 8-7 win over South Eugene in the finals Wednesday night at Hillsboro Stadium.
HRV trounced Silverton in the first round 13-1 behind Parker Sherrell's second consecutive strong pitching outing. Sherrell faced 15 hitters and struck out six while not allowing a run. David Gibson finished out the game in relief.
In the semifinals the Eagles knocked off tournament host Glenoce 6-4. Lucio Alaniz threw 3.1 innings as the starter while Cody Walker went 3.2 in relief and wound up as the winning pitcher.
Ryan Combelic drove in the winning runs with a two-run, two-out double.
At the North Clackamas Spring Break Classic, the HRV softball team played four wildly different games, losing to Gresham 10-0, beating Milwaukie 10-0, beating Cleveland 10-0 and losing to Putnam 7-1.
