Navy Band performs at local high schools and Boardman festival next week

NAVAL AIR STATION WHIDBEY ISLAND - - Navy Band Northwest will be performing free concerts at high schools along the Columbia River, culminating with the Cinco de Mayo Festival in Boardman, Ore., May 2-7, 2011.

“Deception Pass” is a contemporary entertainment ensemble with vocalists, a rhythm section and a small horn section. They perform a variety of rock, funk, soul, rhythm & blues and jazz. This free performance series was coordinated by Commander, Navy Region Northwest at Naval Base Kitsap, Silverdale, Wash., and the Naval Recruiting District, Portland, Ore.

Free concerts are scheduled for:

May 2 - Columbia High School Auditorium, White Salmon, Wash., 8-9 p.m.

May 7 - Cinco de Mayo Festival, Boardman Marina Park, Boardman, Ore., 2-2:45 p.m. and 3:15-4 p.m.

High school concerts scheduled for:

May 2 - Columbia High School Auditorium, White Salmon, Wash., 11:10-11:55 a.m.

May 3 - Corbett High School, Corbett, Ore., 1-2 p.m.

May 4 - The Dalles-Wahtonka High School, The Dalles, Ore., 9:30-10:30 a.m.

May 5 - Goldendale High School, Goldendale, Wash., 8:30-9:30 a.m.

May 6 - Southridge High School, Kennewick, Wash., 8:35-9:35 a.m.

May 6 - Kamiakin High School, Kennewick, Wash., 12:15-1:15 p.m.

The nearby Naval Weapons Systems Training Facility Boardman comes under the responsibility of Capt. Jay Johnston, Commanding Officer, NAS Whidbey Island. Come and enjoy this is a rare performance by these talented U.S. Navy musicians who hail from throughout the United States.
