Last week Hire Electric shocked Cascade Eye Center 21½ to 8½ to win the championship of the Monday Evening Men’s Industrial league at Hood River’s Orchard Lanes.

The Hire Electric crew went into the league’s bracket madness tournament for the Industrial title as the No. 4 seed. Cascade Eye was the No. 1 seed. Once again this format worked to perfection as more teams got an excellent chance at the end of the season to win the league.

This season, eight teams in the Industrial qualified for the championship tournament, which is way more than in any other league. Bowling for the champs were JD Blackford, Scott Pritchard, Fred Bergren, Ted Rosenberg and Bob Rosenberg. Congratulations — be proud of your accomplishment as it’s not easy to win a league title.

Rock-N-Rollers squeaked by Go-Granny-Go last week in a playoff to determine the second-half winner in the Wednesday afternoon Colts and Fillies league. It was about as close as it could get.

The Rollers won by a scant six pins in the three-game total pin match. Bowling for the victors were Dewane Johnson, Ross Bluestone, Nancy Sayler and Lyle Sayler. The seniors bowl for fun and camaraderie so they don’t have a roll-off for the overall league champion.

Rock-N-Rollers join The Beasties, who won the first half, as the top two teams in the league this season so let’s recognize them as co-champions! Way to go bowlers.

We’ve only got a couple weeks of regular league action left at the lanes. The fabulous Wednesday night Fraternal league, the best league in the Gorge, is the last one to finish. The first two round winners, Indian Creek Golf Course and The 50’s Gang, are automatically in the championship roll off at the end of the season.

Currently, in this, the third and last round, Buntings Exhaust is leading but only by a razor-thin half-point over the Indian Creek squad. If Indian Creek prevails in the third round, then there will only be a two-team roll-off for the league title between them and the 50’s Gang.

If Buntings wins the third round they will join in the championship roll-off with, as it stands now, a wild card which would be the team captained and named after the legendary Bill Hirata. Hirata’s team would qualify as the wild card since they won the most points during the season without winning a round. Any way you look at it, this is going to be a donnybrook!

Don’t fret; there will be summer league action at the lanes. Consider joining the Golf-bowl league which will start June 6. This ultra-fun format is for two-person teams featuring a week of bowling alternating with a week of golf.

The bowling will consist of three games at Orchard Lanes and the golf will be 9 holes at the fantastic Indian Creek Golf Course. Sign-ups are being taken now; contact Pat Olson at Orchard Lanes, 541-386-1326, via Facebook or website, www.orchard lanes.net.
