Community members convey their gratitude

Last weekend’s Lila May Schow Fundraiser was a success and this weekend brings another chance to help out.

Jennifer Lorenzen explains:

“On behalf of Lila May Schow and her family, I would like to extend our thanks to all those who came to, donated, and participated in the Photos with Santa fundraiser. Special thanks go to Erin Tegeler Photography, Columbia Gorge Hotel, Rosauers, Walgreens, Hood River Fire Department, Amancay Maahs, Chris Wilt, Kimberly Sweek, Matt Adams, the staff at Northwest Pediatrics, and Hood River News.

“Our community’s’ generosity is a blessing to Lila and her family. If you missed your opportunity to share with Lila, the Hood River County Fire Department will also be hosting a photo with Santa fundraiser on behalf of Lila on Sunday, Dec. 9, noon to 4 p.m. at the Fire Hall, near 18th and May streets.. Don’t miss your opportunity to show your support to this local family.


Hosted by the Columbia Gorge Lioness Club, the recent Cascade Locks was a first-time event for the community.

“It was so encouraging to see the number of women there who are active in the community in a very positive way,” writes Robbie Lee. Represented were women involved in the Action Team, AWANAS, Bingo, Bridge of the God Quilters, CLAD, FISH, Lions, Lioness, Pre-school Playgroup, RARE, SMART, Women’s Fellowship, and local artists. Thanks everyone for coming out and contributing to a successful fun event.”


“There is sad news about the passing of former Pine Grove resident Linda Diers,” writes Debra Laraway, Hood River News’ Pine Grove correspondent.

“This past spring a donation fund was set up for Linda with Cascade Central Credit Union on the Heights in Hood River. The family would like to Thank everyone for their cards and support during her battle with ALS.

Linda’s services were held Nov. 27 at the West Union Lutheran Church in Carver, Minn. Linda and Dave have lived in Carver for the past several years.

Memorials and or sympathy cards can be mailed to: Dave Diers and family at 114 Reform Street N., Apartment 206, New Young America, MN 55368.

Dave and Linda’s son, Martin Diers, a Pastor for the Augustana Lutheran Church presided in the service for his mother.

From a poem read for Linda by the family:

Asleep, in Jesus! Blessed sleep,

From which none ever wakes to weep;

A calm and undisturbed repose,

Unbroken by the last of foes.

Asleep in Jesus! Oh, how sweet

To be for such a slumber meet,

With holy confidence to sing

That death has lost his venomed sting!

Asleep in Jesus! Peaceful rest,

Whose waking is supremely blest ...
