Meadows begins night operations

Mt. Hood Meadows Ski Resort opened for night operations this week, with lifts running until 9 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. To kick off the “Meadows After Dark” season, the resort is offering discounted lift tickets for $15 on Wednesday and Thursday of this week. The regular night ticket (for non-passholders) is $30 and is good from 3-9 p.m. Season night passes cost $129.

As of deadline Tuesday, the resort reports a 42-inch base. Forecasts for the week show off-and-on snow with up to a foot possible through Wednesday night and another round of snow in line for the weekend.

Indoor Soccer Academy for grades 5-8

The weather might be wet and the fields soggy, but many kids still want to play soccer. For boys and girls in grades 5-8, the answer is Hood River’s Indoor Soccer Academy League. The league is held at Wy’east Middle School and is designed for players of all abilities, with a focus on skill development.

Games will be held in the Wy’east gym on Sundays from Jan. 6 through Feb. 11. An open gym and parent meeting will take place Dec. 16, 4 p.m., at Wy’east where parents can learn more information and register kids and players can meet one another and get a feel for what the league will be like.

Boys and girls teams will be created with an emphasis on development, not competition, with focus on ball handling, passing and movement. Volunteer coaches are welcomed and can complete required back ground check at the Community Ed office.

Registration can be done through Hood River County Community Education’s website at or in person at the Dec. 16 open gym. A one-time fee of $25 covers six games and a T-shirt. For questions contact Pepe Rivera at 541-399-3362.
