Dec. 21 — “Blue Christmas” service, 7 p.m.: A safe place to bring grief and disappointment in a season of joy

Christmas is not always merry and the socially expected happiness is sometimes mingled with pain and tears. On Dec. 21, the day with the most darkness and least light, the church will meet together for a worship service. For this service it will be all right to cry and to say aloud what lies heavy upon our hearts.

In the midst of the darkness we will look for the light which the darkness cannot overcome. Everyone is invited: those who are hurting and those who are willing to stand with them. Childcare will be provided.

The 8 p.m. service will feature the Riverside Chancel Choir.

Riverside invites everyone for refreshments after each service. Those attending services are encouraged to bring in socks and gloves for the Giving Tree in the Pioneer Room. Blankets are needed too, and can be placed under the tree. All gifts will assist those who are homeless.
