Kieran King arrives first among 2012 babies

January 7, 2012

The "dinosaur doctor" was in the day Kieran King was born.

Kieran Daniel Matthias King is the first baby of 2012 at Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital, born Jan. 3 at 8:30 a.m.

"It's a boy" read the balloon carried by Tristan King, 2, "dinosaur doctor" and big brother to Kieran, who arrived with a full head of dark hair like Tristan's and even seemed to grin like his brother.

Kieran's parents are Sarena and Nicholas King of Hood River.

"He's feisty - and awfully cute," Sarena said of Kieran.

"It was a surprise, since it was Jan. 3," said Sarena, a Hood River native who graduated from high school in 2006. "It's pretty cool, especially since I did not expect it," she said of being mother to the county's first baby of the year. Kieran's due date was Jan. 6.

"When they told me he would be the first, I said, 'Gosh, you're kidding,' and they said, 'No, it's been pretty slow.'"
