The Oregon State Police troopers from The Dalles Area command have had their hands full this week.
When asked how many crashes and other incidents troopers have responded to this week, senior trooper Kaipo Raiser started to count and quickly gave up.
"It's a lot," he said.
Numerous crashes have been reported throughout the week due to snow and icy conditions on the highway, and Raiser said troopers have been stretched to the limit to respond to them all.
"We've basically just been running from crash to crash," Raiser said. "We've had Fish and Wildlife officers out there helping us patrol, as well."
Raiser said that several troopers have nearly been struck by speeding or sliding cars on the roadway, and said that all drivers need to slow down and take appropriate precautions.
"Several of our troopers have almost been struck today," Raiser said. "People have been driving way too fast."
With so many crashes, the troopers have essentially just been dashing from crash to crash trying to keep up them all.
"We have been running around like mad," he said.
