'The Bite' cancelled

March 16, 2012

Statement by Mike Schend, board president, Columbia Gorge Arts in Education:

Columbia Gorge Arts in Education has been proud to present our annual fundraiser, the Bite of the Gorge for the past 11 years. This year we decided to move the event from Hood River to The Dalles since AIE serves Hood River, Wasco, Sherman and Klickitat Counties. We gained support from some businesses in The Dalles, but not unfortunately not enough to put on an event of this magnitude. However, due to a lack of comitted funds to ensure a successful event, the board decided to cancel the Bite that was scheduled for May 19th at the Clock Tower Ales in The Dalles.

The difficult decision to cancel was not made in haste. The Bite is not only a popular event, it is also CGAIE's primary fundraiser. We can't thank enough those volunteers that put valuable time and resources into trying to make the Bite happen. We have forged friendships with many people and businesses in The Dalles who value arts education and support our mission. The CGAIE Board is in the process of evaluating our fundraising strategies for 2012 and hope to have the opportunity to work with The Dalles community soon in another capacity in the near future.

Columbia Gorge Arts in Education is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing high quality arts education to school children in four counties. For more than 25 years, we have brought hundreds of artists into local schools, libraries and communities. Operating primarily on grants and donations, we also sponsor community arts projects and teacher development programs.
