Proud Parents: Athlete updates submitted from the empty nest

n Marlee Orgain, a 2011 graduate of Hood River Valley High School and four-year cheerleader, made the cut this year from hundreds of girls who tried out for the University of Oregon cheer squad. Out of more than 250 girls, Orgain was chosen as one of only a few new flyers to join the squad’s stunt team.

n Oregon State University wrestler Lucas Mondragon picked up his varsity letter this spring for his role at the 197-pound weight class with the Division 1 varsity team. Mondragon graduated from HRVHS in 2009, where he earned All-American honors at the 189-pound weight class.

n Softball player Brianne Rowley, 2007 Hood River Valley High School graduate, is in her senior year at William Penn University in Okaloosa, Iowa. Leading the team at first base, Rowley and the WPU Statesmen advanced through the regular season this year and are in the midst of the college national tournament. Rowley finished the regular season with 15 home runs.
