MID VALLEY NEWS: Odell group cooks up ‘walking bake sale’

The annual Odell Methodist Christmas Bazaar will be Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

You’ll find lots of homemade crafts, baked goods, jams, jellies and wreaths. Homemade soup, pie and ice cream will also be served. “Join us at the ‘Little Brown Church’ for shopping, food and fellowship,” says member Jean Stone. For more info contact Stone at 541-386-3951.

The Odell Lioness Club will hold their annual Walking Bake Sale along Oak Street in downtown Hood River Dec. 8 at 10:30 a.m.

They’ll begin in front of At Home On Oak Street with baskets of cookies, breads and candies. The sale is an annual fundraiser that helps support local projects, such as Project Graduation, the Christmas Project and Opportunity Connections. The club also gives scholarships to graduating senior girls.

There are only five vender spaces left for the upcoming Last Chance Bazaar at the Hood River County Fairgrounds in Odell Dec. 8-9. Contact Fair Manager Clara Rice at 541-354-2865 to reserve a space.

St. Francis House of Odell reports that the Hood River Cultural Trust has chosen to fund a series of music-related projects at the youth center over the next year.

“Volunteers will offer music lessons, we will host workshops and see live performances,” says AmeriCorps Volunteer Rebecca Brochu.

“The Hood River Cultural Trust has been very generous to us in the past years, and provided grants to build a traditional Latin American herb garden, and provide theater enrichment opportunities. Both youth and adults are excited to begin a new year of fun and music.”

The youth center also extends its congratulations to the Hood River Valley High School Boys Soccer team — over half of the boys’ varsity players frequent St. Francis House, and both youth and volunteers are proud of how they represent the valley to the teams they play, says Brochu.

The Fairgrounds is currently being used for boat, car, and RV storage through April 1. For more information or to reserve a space, contact Rice at the number above.
