DEQ fines Hood River resident for illegal burn

The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality issued a $1,000 penalty to Agustin M. Garcia of Hood River for illegal open burning on his property at 1735 Tucker Road in May.

DEQ noted that beginning on May 12 of this year, Garcia burned several items, including household garbage, a fiberglass boat, plastic swimming pool, mattress, coffee table and other items. All these items are prohibited from being burned, as they normally emit dense smoke or noxious odors. The entire burn pile, which included yard debris, burned for four days.

A burn ban is currently in effect in the Gorge. Contact your local fire agency for details.
