Mid Valley News: Register for May 21 ‘Soccer Shootout’

The Hood River County Fairgrounds will host a Ranch Sorting and Team Penning clinic May 4. The Ranch Sorting clinic starts at 9 a.m. and costs $45.

Open Ranch Sorting starts at 1 p.m. and is $30 for three tries. Riders will use the indoor or outdoor area depending on the weather. Camping sites are available, as are a limited number of stalls.

The event will kick off May 3 with hamburgers and hot dogs.

Kindergarten Roundup is happening at all elementary schools in the Hood River County School District. At Mid Valley, registration runs Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Proof of age, immunization records and proof of address are required.

Children must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1 to enter kindergarten for the 2013-14 school year.

“At Wy’east Middle School, third quarter has just come to a close and students are on the home stretch of the school year as they juggle last-quarter assignments and state assessment testing during the fourth quarter,” says school representative Teri Adams.

A third quarter student acknowledgement assembly is scheduled for April 26 in the school’s Blue Gym starting at 1:50 p.m.

“We’ll be highlighting academic, athletic and all-around student achievement that the whole school can celebrate,” says Adams.

Sixth-grade parents need to return paperwork for Outdoor School as soon as possible.

Fifth-graders at Mid Valley and Parkdale Elementary can expect principals and counselors next month to discuss the transition to the middle school.

The Wy’east Student Council, in partnership with the Hood River Valley High School boys soccer program, will put on a family-friendly soccer shoot-out tournament May 11, says school Vice Principal Patricia Cooper. Three divisions are planned: Elementary, middle school and high school; teams will be co-ed.

A maximum of 12 teams for each division will be accepted.
