Several families in Parkdale are gearing up to hold yard sales during the Memorial Day weekend and all are encouraging more Upper Valley residents to join in.
“If you’ve been waiting for a good time to do a yard sale, this is it,” said Parkdale resident Linda Mooney, who raises money for Relay for Life every year with her sales. “If people have yard sale items but would rather just donate them to a great cause they are welcome to bring them by 7680 Clear Creek Road and I will be happy to add them to my sale.”
Residents on Van Nuys, 3rd and 4th Streets in Parkdale are already planning on being out on different days during the holiday weekend.
Maps will be available at each address listing all the other venue locations.
Signs will be posted and ads will be listed in the Hood River News and online at Gorge.net, and Craigslist.org.
If you’d like your address to be added to the map contact Linda Mooney at 541-490-9861.
The Parkdale Grange ladies will be cooking up something special for their final breakfast of the season at the Grange Hall on Mother’s Day, Sunday May 12 from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
“We’ll be cooking up special egg dishes for this breakfast such as baked omelets, quiches, and a variety of strattas,” said Grange member Jean Hardman. “We’ll still have the regular menu items such as pancakes, biscuits and gravy available for those who would like them.”
The breakfast is just $6 for adults, $4 for children 5-12, and children under 4 eat for free.
The Parkdale Little League Hit-a-Thon will be held at the main field in Parkdale on Saturday May 11 beginning at 1:30 p.m.
“This is the league’s only fundraiser for the year to support field maintenance and updates to the equipment,” said Angie Green. “Kids are out now collecting pledges to support their league.”
Apple Valley Barbecue will be serving up pulled pork plates with cole slaw for $5 a plate with a portion of the proceeds to benefit the Parkdale Little League.
The Upper Valley Extension Group will be holding its monthly meeting on Thursday, May 9 at 10 a.m. at the Grange Hall.
Members Mary Parrot and Nancy Slagle will be doing a presentation on genealogy and invite you to learn about your ancestors, discover your heritage and write it all down before it’s too late.
Community members are welcome to attend the meeting.
Fire Chief Mike McCafferty says the Parkdale Fire Department’s recent Casino Night fundraiser held on Saturday, April 20 was a big success.
“We had our largest crowd ever at just under 300 people and visitors from as far away as Salem,” said McCafferty. “We also had almost three dozen people take advantage of the free rides home at the end of the night that includes bringing home their cars, which was very good.”
The Casino Night 20th Anniversary special of smoked chicken and tri-tip was such a hit they plan to serve it again next year., according to McCafferty.
