Garbanzo Bros. at Trillium Cafe

The Flying Garbanzo Brothers will be at the Trillium Cafe on Friday, Dec. 27, with the late show, starting at 10 p.m. Randy, Ryan and Dennis are Wanted Men, Desperate Hombres and your reward is music you can dance to. Trillium Cafe, 207 Oak St., Hood River, 541-308-0800.

NYE at Mt Hood Meadows

Mt Hood Meadows is turning up the music for the New Year’s Eve holiday celebration.

On Sunday, Dec. 29, from 3-6 p.m. it’s Tony Smiley — electro-acoustic music featuring original soul bearing songs, improv crowd pleasers, and creative cover mixes. Tony plays the keyboard, drum machine, guitar, tambourine, cowbell, and beat box along with his vocals. His songs are original groove-laden works of art.

On New Year’s Eve, Dec. 31, it’s Keegan Smith and the Fam. “A super fun, high-energy Portland band, Keegan Smith’s sound spectrum ranges from blues to neo-soul, hip-hop to acoustic roots and reggae to funk.” The party starts at 8 p.m. with a guest DJ. Solstice party, sing along

Celebrate the Winter Solstice with Solstice Pizza on Saturday night (Dec. 21) with live fire and belly dancing. Showtimes are 5:30, 7, and 8:30 p.m. Then join the fun on Sunday (Dec. 22) for the 7th annual holiday sing-along benefit for the local food bank. Leading the carols will be Victor Johnson, Kerry Williams and Molly Schwarz from 3-5 p.m. $10 suggested donation (per family). Solstice Wood Fire Cafe, 501 Portway Avenue, Hood River, 541-436-0800.

The Christmas Bird Count is coming up soon on Sunday Dec 29. Hood River Hobbies will have a team — if you are interested in participating email miko@hoodriverhobbies.com.

Local birdwatchers are coordinating a Big Year competition starting January 1 for a 4 county area (Hood River, Wasco, Skamania, and Klickitat Counties). This will be a friendly competition with some days set aside for cooperative birding.
