Scoring was really challenging at Hood River’s Orchard Lanes last week. The powerful shots of Jason DeGeus and Josh Worth still found enough success to make the most recent Team of the Week, as did the finesse strokes of Jeremy Bloom.
Joining this trio of big names were Ted Rosenberg and Bob Reid, both of whom tossed 662 sets in the Monday night Industrial league. Ted was in the zone all night long, racking up three 200 games along the way, whereas Bob started a little slower and finished strong with 232 and 246 games. This is the second time in the past few weeks that Bob Reid has made the vaunted fab-five; has he found the secret to making the sticks dance?
Finally, Bowler of the Week honors go to Ted, as he was a whopping 158 pins over his average.
Jeff Chenier and Rod Pratt just missed making the Team of the Week. Jeff logged a 657 set to top all of the big shooters in the powerful Wednesday night Fraternal league and Rod had a sparkling 654 series in the Thursday evening Hood River County league. Jeff is no stranger to big scores, having notched many of them in his career on the maples. Meanwhile, Rod seems to break out every year with a fine set or two in the fun county league. It seems that if he wanted to get serious he could easily bowl with the best.
Judging from last week’s scores, it appears the county league may be just getting warmed up as its season is drawing to a close. Take note of all the other big scores in the county league: Cory VanSickle had a super 232 game, Zach Kellogg had a fine 229 game and Tony Clark rolled 216 and 203 games. If the lanes were a bit more challenging last week, how come so many new names rose to the occasion? It’s good to see different bowlers rolling good games.
The lesson is, hang in there, work hard and the big numbers will happen. You have to be able to adjust to different lane conditions; that’s what makes a bowler a player. Are you a player?
