HRVHS celebrates FFA Week

‘Pass the Pig’ today, breakfast Saturday

“Pass the Pig” returns today and the annual Farmers Breakfast will be Saturday as local students celebrate National FFA Week.

The Hood River Valley FFA Chapter is busy with three aspects of FFA Week. In addition to helping the local food banks during February, the students are doing two of the chapter’s largest functions of the year: the Feb. 20 Pass the Pig fundraiser and Saturday’s breakfast at the high school.

In Pass the Pig, FFA members will be roaming the community with baby pigs in tow as they participate for the ninth-annual fundraiser.

During the event, FFA members will bring a baby pig to a business in the Hood River valley and for a donation of $20, the members will then take the baby pig to a business of the donor’s choosing.

If you are interested in sending the pig to a local business, contact advisors Don Schmidt or Nita Bozarth at 541-386-4500, ext. 4563 or 4562.

The sixth-annual FFA Farmers Breakfast is a chance for the FFA chapter to give back to the agricultural community with a free-of-charge morning meal on Saturday from 7 to 11 a.m.

In addition to the meal, community members will have the opportunity to visit with FFA members and tour the agricultural facilities, known as Land Lab.

The students are also collecting canned food in conjunction with Les Schwab Tires during February.
