Reynolds handles HRV boys hoops

Hood River Valley High School varsity boys lost a tough road game this week against Reynolds High School. The end result was a 59-32 loss with Luke Kopecky leading the way with nine points, four rebounds and six steals. Cesar Romero had six points and Eli Fults had five. The loss was in large part to a total of 19 turnovers (14 in the first half) and a rough second quarter that saw HRV outscored 22-7.

Meadows hosts Rotary skiing Jan. 21

Hood River Rotary Club will host it’ annual Rotary Ski Night at Mt.Hood Meadows on Monday, Jan. 21. Tickets for the 2-9 p.m. fundraiser event are $10; after 4 p.m. the special tickets will be the only way to access the lifts (season passes, 10-time passes, night passes, etc. won’t work).

The annual event is a fundraiser for the club’s annual scholarship program that benefits students at Hood River Valley High School.

Free snowshoe demos Jan. 12 at White River

On Jan. 12 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., REI is again hosting Winter Trails, a free snowshoe demo event at White River West Sno-Park on Mount Hood. The event is an opportunity for people to try the activity of snowshoeing and demo gear offered by various vendors. For more information visit

Oregon Select Baseball tryouts Jan. 18

Oregon Select Baseball, now in its ninth year, is holding tryouts Jan. 18, from 7-9 p.m. for ages 9-14 and the 12U Cooperstown Dream Parks team. Tryouts will be held at The Yard Baseball Academy in Beaverton (5465 S.W. Western Ave.). A player’s league age is determined by his age on April 30, 2012.

Tumbleweed hoops tourney March 8-10

Organizers are gearing up for the annual Tumbleweed men’s basketball tournament, set this year for March 8-10. The event is a fundraiser for Condon/Wheeler High School basketball programs and organizers are hoping to register 20 teams. Registration is $300 per team.

Teacup Classic Jan. 27

The 29th annual Teacup Classic features Nordic racing for all ages and ability levels. The event, to be held this year on Jan. 27, takes place on the Teacup Lake Nordic Club’s finely groomed trails off of Highway 35 about 30 minutes south of Hood River.

The day of racing features 2.5K, 5K and 15K courses with several age divisions and skill levels to even out the competition. Registration can be done online or the day of before 9:30 a.m. Racing starts at 10:30 a.m.
