Chimney fire draws attention

Two engines, one each from Hood River and West Side Fire, and about a dozen fire fighters responded to a reported house fire in the 1500 block of Tucker Road Monday afternoon. West Side fire station was only blocks away from the scene and the engines, along with several volunteers in their own vehicles, arrived at the scene moments after being dispatched.

Thankfully, they were not needed for long. The fire wound up being small and contained to the chimney of the house and was quickly extinguished.

The response caused a brief traffic snarl for school buses traveling north on Tucker Road but otherwise proved to be a minimal incident.

After a quick inspection inside the home ensuring that the fire was out, most of the firefighters were able to leave the scene only moments after arriving.
