MID VALLEY NEWS: Get those entries ready for the fair

Happy Fourth of July! Odell will celebrate with its annual parade through downtown, beginning and ending at Mid Valley Elementary. Those participating are asked to line up at Mid Valley at 3:30 p.m. For those watching, the parade will begin at 4 p.m.

The Hood River County Fair is right around the corner, and it’s time to get your projects ready for entry, says Fair Manager Clara Rice. Exhibits will be taken July 22 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and July 23 from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The fair will run from noon on July 24 through the evening of July 27.

Discounted ride coupons are available at the fair office until opening day. Save $5 by purchasing tickets early.

The Odell Garden Club’s next regular meeting will be July 9 at 10 a.m. in the Community Building at the fairgrounds. The club will work on the Hood River County Fair Flower Show details, and members will be bringing designs for critique “to prepare ideas and helpful hints about designs,” says club president Norma Curtis.

The public is invited to attend the meeting, as well as encouraged to enter horticulture and designs at this year’s fair. Check the fair book for classification details.

It’s been a while since we’ve heard from the Ruby Ragazza chapter of the Red Hat Society, but the ladies are still going strong. They are hosting a Patriotic Tea at the Oregon Veterans’ Home in The Dalles July 12 beginning at 2 p.m. The annual event honors veterans and their spouses.

Bored kids? Don’t forget the reading programs going on now at both Mid Valley and Wy’east. Mid Valley students and their families are invited to the school library every Monday and Tuesday through Aug. 6, from 6-7:30 p.m. Students earn prizes for reading and are able to check out books from the school’s library.

At Wy’east, the next “reading check-in” will be held July 22 at Mid Valley. Completed bookmark summaries can be turned in for prizes.
