July 10 meeting on deer, elk issues

Are you concerned with the growing numbers of deer and elk moving through your orchards and property? The Hood River County Farm Bureau has scheduled a comprehensive planning session for managing deer and elk in our area, to be held Wednesday, July 10, at 3 p.m. at the Parkdale Fire Department, 4895 Baseline Road.

Forrest Frantz, who has been tracking the habitat and migration patterns for the deer and elk in our area, will be presenting, and Mike Moore, assistant district wildlife biologist from The Dalles district office of the ODFW, will be there to answer questions. Moore will discuss differences between deer and elk (eating, browsing, damage, movement), valley damage and types of remediation, and current elk or deer studies around Mt. Hood.

Katie Fast (Oregon Farm Bureau director of governmental affairs) or Randy Kiyokawa of Parkdale will discuss how OFB has been working with state agencies and landowners in Eastern Oregon in dealing with these same issues.

Ross Stafford of Kiwi Construction will discuss trends, imitations and the estimated cost of fencing.
