Little League All-Stars rack up the District W’s

Hood River Little League All-Star teams did a bang-up job this past weekend in the District 5 Championship double-elimination tournament held in Bend, facing stiff competition from teams all around Oregon, including North and South Bend, Crook County, Jefferson County, John Day, The Dalles, Warm Springs, and Central Oregon.

The teams are comprised of the top players in this year’s local league, which encompassed Parkdale, Odell, Hood River, White Salmon and Trout Lake.

The finals for the tournament are scheduled for this weekend, with the top teams in each age group from the district moving on to the state contest. The oldest age group (11-12) will then have a chance to compete in the regional and national tournaments. As of Wednesday afternoon, all teams were still in the tournament, although some teams still had games to play. The following were the results available as of press deadline:

9-10 girls: The girls softball team was perfect in the first four games of the tournament, and is heading to state.

On June 29, Hood River defeated Warm Springs by a score of 13-10 and shut down Crook County with a decisive 17-5 victory on June 30. Hood River then beat Bend South the next day 9-7 and on July 3 in the championship game, defeated Crook County again, this time 15-4.

The girls have earned a spot in the state tournament, Scappoose, July 13-18.

9-10 boys: Hood River opened up with a resounding 14-4 win over John Day on June 29.

The team followed up with another big victory on June 30, defeating Columbia by a score of 18-5. Hood River, however lost an 8-7 heartbreaker to North Bend on July 2. The day after, Hood River again beat John Day, this time by a score of 11-1.

10-11 boys: The 10-11 age group also started off with a bang, defeating Crook County on June 29 in a 11-1 rout.

The Dalles then beat Hood River, 10-0, on June 30. After Warm Springs forfeited a game on July 1 due to a lack of players, Hood River played Hermiston July 2 and won 16-5. Wednesday, Hood River played South Central and again came out ahead with a 4-3 win.

11-12 boys: Hood River had a bye for the first round of play on Saturday, then sneaked by Hermiston on Sunday with a 5-4 victory. On July 3, Hood River lost to South Bend 0-5.
