‘Eve and Emily’ debuts July 24

The Mt. Hood Independent film series continues on Wednesday, July 24, at 7:30 p.m. at the Columbia Center for the Arts, with a preview screening of local filmmaker Daniel McCabe’s first feature length film, “Eve and Emily.” “Eve and Emily” was produced entirely in Hood River.

This interpersonal drama takes place over a 12-hour period as Eve and John invite Emily and Paul to their house for a dinner party. Eve, a prominent local lawyer, has recently hired Paul to join her firm. John, Eve’s husband, is retired at a young age for reasons that are kept hidden. Emily, the young and beautiful wife of Paul, is struggling to find her place in her new surroundings. Difficulties in these relationships are exposed as the four characters come together for dinner one summer night in Hood River. Daniel McCabe will be present to introduce the movie. This film is not rated; run time is 82 minutes. Columbia Arts is located at 215 Cascade Ave. in Hood River.

‘Love, Loss’ show and art auction conclude this weekend

Two shows remain for the CAST production of “Love, Loss and What I Wore,” a comic drama with nine women portraying 28 characters, depicting the emotional significance in the life of Gingie, played by Brenda Hering.

Shows are at 7:30 p.m. July 19-20. (Performances run 2:05, including intermission.)

Also in the cast are Brenda Hering, Kim Robichaud, Barb Berry, Lisa Roth, Desiree Amyx-Mackintosh, Irene Fields, Emily Vawter, Deborah Langlois, and Julie Jindal. Judie Hanel directs. Shows are at 7:30 p.m. July 19-20. (Performances run 2:05, including intermission.)

Tickets are $18 for adults and $14 for seniors and students; available at Waucoma Bookstore, the arts center and online at www.columbiaarts.org. The production is suitable for mature teenagers.

Artwork used in the production, by J. Niels Harvey, Karen Watson and Cathleen Rehfeld, is available for sale via silent auction. Proceeds benefit the center, which is open daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Bids are accepted through Saturday at 7:30 p.m., the ending performance for “Love, Loss.”

Bigfoot Band at Solera July 26

The Bigfoot Band heads to Solera Brewery in Parkdale on Friday, July 26, starting at 6 p.m. The Bigfoot Band features Tim Mayer, Ryan McAlexander, Tim Ortlieb and local favorite Rick Hulett on guitar and vocals. ‘Lighters’ at Red Carpet July 20

On Saturday, July 20, it’s Eddie and The Lighters at the Red Carpet Inn in Hood River from 8-10 p.m. The band will be playing outside on the patio rockin’ Hood River’s favorite outside dance floor. Tess Barr returns to the Clocktower Ales in the Dalles on July 26 from 9-11 p.m. and The Waucoma Club in Hood River on July 27 at 9 p.m. The band will be playing its traditional blues and will show off its new originals.
