Maryhill Festival of Speed finals Sunday

Catch the seventh-annual Maryhill Festival of Speed this weekend as downhill skateboarding and street luge competitors from around the globe compete on the world-famous Maryhill Loops Road in the eastern Gorge.

Elimination rounds are on Saturday and the finals on Sunday in an event has drawn athletes from the United States, Australia, South Africa, Brazil, Switzerland, Sweden, Finland, Japan, Germany, France, Canada, Great Britain, Norway and beyond, to compete for $10,000 in prizes on the 2.2-mile, 22-corner course. For spectators, free front-row viewing of the action along the course is supplemented by food, music and other event fanfare. Maryhill Loops Road is located east of US 97, off Highway 14 — cross the Columbia River at Biggs Junction. HRVHS cross country summer workouts

Incoming freshmen, current high school runners and adults are invited to join the Hood River Valley High School cross country team for its summer workout schedule, which is as follows: Mondays and Tuesdays, 9 a.m. at Post Canyon, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 9 a.m. at the HRVHS south parking lot. Hole-in-one at HRGCC

Hood River Golf and Country Club reported last week that Greg Crafts recently hit a hole-in-one on the course’s third hole (a par three). The shot, using a six-iron, was witnessed by fellow golfers John Stewart, Don Placido and Steve Heller.

Community Ed tennis has openings

Hood River Community Education has a limited number of openings for youth summer tennis camps. Due to remodeling of the Hood River courts, camps will be held in White Salmon this summer.
