‘Feast’ among the books

Library Foundation hosts fundraiser on March 9

The Hood River County Library Foundation invites the community to eat, drink and be merry in the library at the third annual Feast of Words on March 9.

Their fundraiser goes from 6 to 9 p.m. and will include hand-made desserts and savory appetizers, local wine and beer and live music in the downtown Hood River Library.

“You can experience the library as you never have before,” said Library Director Buzzy Nielsen.

Tickets are $25 each and are available at the door or in advance at any library branch, Waucoma Bookstore, Volcanic Bottle Shoppe, or online at http://www.hoodriverlibrary.org/foundation

This year, the Library Foundation’s goal is to raise $15,000 to improve the atrium in the library. The improvements will include a new teen area, designed by the library’s Teen Speak advisory committee, and a new magazine area so that readers can take advantage of the library’s stunning view of the Columbia River.

Among the all-ages events at Feast of Words:

n Dance to live music played by Lolo

n Library staff will be on hand with activities for kids downstairs in the Children’s Library.

n Desserts are being coordinated by renowned cake-maker Polly Wood.

n There might even be an extra-special appearance by library benefactor Georgiana Smith, after whom the library park is named.

n Live and silent auctions bid items include a stay in a beach house in Neskowin, two tickets to the upcoming sold-out show by Storm Large at the Columbia Center for the Arts, a party for 25 with Solstice’s mobile pizza oven, a ride on a glider, and much more!

Event sponsor is the Mary Hoyt Stevenson Foundation. Beer and wine sponsors are Pfriem Family Brewing and Viento Wines.

Nielsen said thanks also go to the many individuals and businesses who donated auction items or contributed time or resources to the Foundation. Tickets may also be purchased at the door.
