Dennis Johnson is one of the elite slide guitar players performing today. Drawing comparisons to slide guitarists Robert Johnson and Roy Rogers, Johnson masterfully elevates the art of slide guitar across many genres of music, including blues, New Orleans, rock and swing. March 9: Bhutan “The Last Shangri-La,” two ushers and one bartender

March 20: River Light “25 Years of Kayaking Wild Rivers,” two ushers and one bartender

March 22-23: “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” (staged reading), one usher on March 22 and a bartender and two ushers and a bartender on March 23

March 27: Film series “Into Eternity,” one usher

Saturday, March 9: Silverhawk, featuring Sam and John C. Densmore, 9:30 p.m. – Psychedelic folk-rock. Silverhawk has a broadly appealing body of original work behind them. With a rotating cast of instrumentalists, they have an innate ability to engage diverse audiences. They are often compared to Modern Lovers, Pavement and the Beatles. Country Dance March 9


Second Saturday Country Dance at Rockford Grange.

On Saturday, March 9, from 7-10 p.m., it’s the Second Saturday Country Dance at the Rockford Grange in Hood River. The caller will be Ned Leager from Portland. The band will be the Mill Creek String Band, from the Mid-Columbia area.

Dance lessons will begin at 7 p.m. All ages welcome. No partner required. Family friendly. All dances walked through first time. Enjoy an evening of country squares, contras, circle dances and a few waltzes. Rockford Grange is located on Barrett Road in Hood River. Cost is $6 for members, $7 for non-members; $1 for youth and students. Please bring snack treats for break time. Local fusiongrass string band Cripple Hop is playing at Double Mountain on Thursday, March 7, at 8 p.m. Featuring Max Reitz and John Hunter on acoustic guitars and vocals, Andy Roof on bass and vocals and Ryan Brevard on mandolin, Cripple Hop jams on fast, string-inspired music from many sources: Grateful Dead, Widespread Panic, Greensky Bluegrass, Hendrix, The Stones, Yonder Mountain String Band, as well as originals and some bluegrass tunes.
