The final “Sense of Place” lecture of the season will feature Hood River Mayor Arthur Babitz presenting “The Hood River Valley as seen though a Century of Photographs.”
The event is at Springhouse Cellar Winery, 13 Railroad St. in Hood River, March 19: doors open at 6 p.m. and the lecture begins at 6:30 p.m. A $5 donation is suggested.
The past 125 years have seen a transformation of the landscapes and cityscapes of the Hood River Valley. The narrative of how an isolated and wild place became the Hood River we see today is evident in a sequence of historic photographs, many of which haven’t been seen since they were first captured decades ago. This lecture will examine how improvements in transportation and electrification enabled the evolution of our modern economy.
