The Odell FISH Food Bank site opened its doors almost three years ago in downtown Odell and has been quietly distributing food to clients on Thursdays from 4-6 p.m. ever since.
“We are so grateful that the Odell community has embraced the food bank in a very positive way, offering help when needed, donating products from gardens, and volunteering,” says volunteer Becky Bugge. “In fact, some of our volunteers are also our clients!”
Volunteers help with a variety of needs, transporting food from Hood River to Odell, stocking shelves, keeping the building clean, checking expiration dates, registering clients and helping with food selection, says Bugge.
“The Odell site is the only one of our four sites where our clients can actually choose their food by ‘shopping’ rather than being handed pre-assembled bags or boxes,” she says.
Volunteers and donations are always needed. Call the site at 541-352-1900. To make a donation, send it to FISH Food Bank, c/o Becky Bugge, 3481 Ehrck Hill Road, Hood River, OR 97031.
