Bird walk on Indian Creek Trail
This spring Miko Ruhlen, co-owner of Hood River Hobbies, will be leading bird walks that will focus on different sections of the Indian Creek Trail. The walks are Sunday mornings starting at 8 a.m. on May 5 and 19 and June 2 and 30. The cost is $3; sign up through Community Education (541-386-2055 or hrcommunityed.org) or at Hood River Hobbies just before 8 a.m. on the morning of the walk.
Participants will meet at Hood River Hobbies and then carpool to the nearest birding spot. The walks should end around 9:30-10 a.m.; children may attend but please don’t bring any pets. Bring binoculars, good shoes and a field guide if you have one. For more info email Ruhlen at email@example.com.
‘Historic Secrets’ show May 15
Join local author Scott Cook on Wednesday, May 15, at 7:30 p.m. for “Historic Secrets of the Gorge,” a slideshow and video presentation featuring stories and historic Gorge area photos that are rarely seen. Cook, author of “Curious Gorge” and a Gorge history fanatic, will show the long lost “Lassie” episodes filmed on Mt. Hood in 1966 and talk about special historic places in the Gorge. Tickets are $5 at the door, and the show is at the Columbia Center for the Arts, 215 Cascade Ave., Hood River.
FISH benefit May 4 at The Pines
A FISH Food Bank fundraiser is set for Saturday, May 4, from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at The Pines Tasting Room in Hood River. There will be raffle prizes, auction items and entertainment provided by Aurora from the Hood River High School and music for dancing by Swing Crew and friends. Suggested donation is $10. Tickets can be purchased at Waucoma Bookstore or at the door. Proceeds from the benefit will be used for the food bank building fund.
Flamenco dance at Gallery 301
