PET OF THE WEEK: Sherman is ‘superstar with fetch’

This week volunteers at Adopt A Dog have selected Sherman as the program’s adoptable pet of the week. They describe him as follows:

“Sherman is about 6 years old and a border collie beauty! He’s been at the shelter far too long and frankly, no one can believe he hasn’t been swept up by some lucky family already. Besides being a beautiful dog, he’s very smart and attentive and is just waiting for something to do!

“Sherman is a superstar with fetch, is learning about the Frisbee and seems to be a natural at agility games. If you’ve got something to throw, he’s ready to chase it! He’s one of those dogs who can just keep going. And no sense stopping to cool off — he pops in and out of our little pool for a quick freshen up, and then he’s back at it!

“He takes direction like a champ and makes great eye contact, ready to do what you ask. He’s a great leash walker and very calm and adoring when left inside. He would love a big pile of cozy blankets and a tennis ball to call his own and then life for him would be complete!

“Oh, and Sherman is great with kids, too. He really likes to be with people, most of all, and car rides are almost as fun as fetch; but that’s probably because a car ride usually leads to fun.

“Sherman is a gorgeous dog with hair that should be brushed occasionally. He would love to get out of this shelter and go to a home where he can be with someone a lot. He loves people and thinks he’s a perfect lap dog.”

He is current on shots, microchipped and neutered. The adoption fee for Sherman is $150; cash or check only, please. The fee to adopt is charged to recoup standard veterinary expenses.

Since many of AAD’s dogs are in foster care, please call ahead to meet Sherman at the Hukari Animal Shelter, 3910 Heron Drive, Odell; 541-354-1083. Adoption hours are Wednesdays from 5-7 p.m. and Saturdays from 9-11 a.m. Applications may be downloaded at and faxed to 877-833-7166.

The Adopt A Dog program offers 24PetWatch microchips, which include free registration into the 24PetWatch pet recovery service. (For more information visit or call 866-597-2424.)
