Plenty in store for this weekend

Saturday’s Pumpkin Run starts at 9:30 a.m. (registration at 9 a.m.) at Parkdale’s Rails End Park, with 5K and 10K distances offered.

Saturday’s Harvest Hustle is a standard 5K and 10K run/walk starting at Mid Valley Elementary School at 9:30 a.m. Show up early to register that day.

Sunday’s Vampires and Victims starts at 4:30 p.m. at Hood River Valley High School and entails a 5K run with half the participants as vampires chasing the other half, as victims. Register the day of, 4:30 p.m. at the HRVHS track area.

Sunday’s Columbia Gorge Marathon and Half Marathon starts and finishes at the Hood River marina park and is expected to draw more than 1,000 participants from across the country. Details at

Basketball skills camp Nov. 2-3

Hood River Valley High School is the site of a basketball skills training camp Nov. 2-3 for players in grades seven through 12.The Shawn Johnson Boot Camp, heavily geared toward offensive moves — dribbling, shooting, finishing — will run 9 a.m. to noon both days. Cost of the camp is $65, payable at the door. Johnson is a personal basketball trainer from Vancouver, Wash.

Warren Miller flick airs Nov. 8

Warren Miller’s annual and highly-anticipated winer film airs in Hood River on Nov. 8 at the Skylight Theater. Showtimes are 5 p.m. at 8 p.m., tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for children. “Ticket to Ride” will take ski fans on an action-packed ride to the world's most exotic destinations, including the Alaskan Tordrillos, Switzerland's Jungfrau, Iceland's Troll Peninsula and beyond.

Hood River Wrestling Club sign-ups open

Practices start Oct. 28 for the long-running Hood River Wrestling Club’s winter program. Classes include a beginners group that practices every Monday from 5:15-7:15 p.m., an intermediate and advanced class that practices Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 6-7:30 p.m. and a middle school club that runs until the start of the middle school season in January. Kids and parents interested in checking out the program can show up and watch any of the classes listed above. For more details or to register, go to
