Kegler's Corner: Jeremy Bloom rolls perfect 300

Smooth finesse artist Jeremy Bloom crushed the sticks in the Tuesday Nite Mixed league at Hood River’s Orchard Lanes, stringing 12 strikes in a row in his second game of the session, to notch his career third perfect 300 game. The young D&S Frame & Body Shop specialist went on to record a fine 710 series. Bloom has been right on target so far this season and is now carrying a lofty 221 average. To judge just how good a big average like that is, anyone who averages 200 is clearly skilled at this game. That puts Jeremy on another level; what a bright future he has in the game.

League action at the lanes was packed full of highlights last week. We want to take this opportunity to welcome back Kevin Harris to the bowling wars. Kevin, who has notched a few 300s in his career on the lanes in Spokane and one right here at Orchard Lanes a couple of years ago, logged a nice 641 series in the Monday night Men’s Industrial league.

The big shooter in the Industrial league was local orchardist Joey Sheirbon, who tossed a 643 set. He continued to be hot in the Tuesday Nite Mixed as well, with a fine 658 series that was capped by a big 256 game. Joey, who has only been bowling league for a few years now, keeps on getting better and better at this game; he’s now carrying a 200 average.

Also in the Tuesday Nite Mixed, young Shaiyan Brittle, a recent graduate of juniors at Orchard Lanes who also starred on the award-winning HRVHS girls bowling team, pummeled the pins to the tune of a 223 game. Shaiyan almost took high game honors for the night, but her mother, local all-star Nancy Asai, rolled a super 255 game in the same session. Obviously, Shaiyan has a great future in the game. Newcomer Dan Wahl is also still carrying a 200 average in the Tuesday Nite Mixed.

Senior star Gordon Sim just keeps on pounding the pins. The textbook stylist came ever so close to a 212 triplicate in the Wednesday afternoon senior Colts & Fillies league but his first game was a 213 which works out to a 637 series. Gordon is carrying a solid 211 average, one of the best in town and tops for the senior set by far.

In the same outing, George (State No-tap Champ) Buck made the pins dance to the tune of a great 237 game. George, who practices just about every day, is becoming a force on the lanes and that’s how you can do it: Put some work into the game and you will see big improvement.

In the fast-paced and high-flung Wednesday evening Fraternal league, among all the big scores, Ron Ward stood out, blasting a super 253 game. Ron is having a great season, averaging nearly 200 pins per game which is an improvement of almost 20 pins over last year. To be fair, Ron battled through some injuries last year; obviously, he’s feeling good now. Currently he is the leading candidate for the most-improved bowler at Orchard Lanes.

Clifford Beat has been knocking on the door all season, racking up a number a nice games in the Thursday afternoon senior Lads & Lassies league. His teammate Gordon Sim has been a tough handful to top, but Clifford beat him last week with great 234 and 227 games that propelled him to a fine 633 series.

Finally, in the Thursday County league Rod Pratt was even better than he was two weeks ago with a great 689 series that also landed him on our exclusive Team of the Week. That’s always a feather in your cap since there are so many outstanding bowlers here in Hood River who are not easy to outscore. It’s only been a couple of weeks into their league season but Rod is carrying a whopping 226 average. Welcome to heady all-star status Rod; wow, that’s some great bowling.

Team of the Week

Greg McDaniel (3), 757

Brandon Kawachi (3), 718
