CGCC golf tourney raises $16K

Participants, volunteers and sponsors of Columbia Gorge Community College Foundation’s 14th Annual Founder’s Cup Golf Tournament helped raise $16,000 this year for Columbia Gorge Community College Foundation’s Scholarship Fund.

The PGE and Hire Electric teams earned first-place trophies in the benefit tournament at Indian Creek Golf Course on Saturday, Aug. 3. The PGE team won the low gross category and the Hire Electric team won the low net prize. Columbia State Bank sponsored the benefit tournament to raise money for the CGCC Foundation Scholarship Fund.

SRG/Beresford Company and Valley View Appliance won second-place team trophies, while teams Hoffman Construction and Fore Education took home third-place awards.

Matt Swaim and Judy Urness won closest-to-the-pin contests and awards. Longest drive awards went to Kevin Earkins and Susan Lewis. Jason Beam hit closest to the box to win a Papa Murphy’s pizza each month for one year. No one drove home the hole-in-one prize of a new car from C. H. Urness Motor Company.

Twenty-nine teams participated in this year’s tournament and experienced great weather in the Gorge that weekend. In addition to the golf tournament, the foundation raised donations through a general raffle that included 32 prizes and a wine raffle that included seven cases of local, exceptional wine prizes.
