“Come enjoy the ‘folky, baroque, rocky, blues music’ of Alonzo Garbanzo, the stage name of Dennis Michael Castañares, guitarist, singer, and composer/producer. Alonzo’s stage act includes songs and instrumentals from various genres and periods: slow to fast, soft to loud, originals to covers, Leadbelly to Radiohead. He has many years of experience performing on guitar, bass and keyboards as a soloist and in bands such as the Odyssey and The Cowsills.”

Poet Gaffney reads April 29
Master poet Tommy Gaffney will read from his new book, “Whiskey Days,” at noon on Tuesday, April 29, at Columbia Gorge Community College, Hood River-Indian Creek campus. The reading is free and open to the public.
Gaffney was born and raised in Kentucky, somewhere between the projects and the trailer parks. In addition to “Whiskey Days,” he is the author of “Three Beers from Oblivion” (2006). His work has appeared in such anthologies as “The Night Bomb Review,” “The Drunk Poets Society Anthology; Volume 2” and “The Broken Word Anthology; Volumes 1 & 2.”
He has performed at the “Insomniacathon” and “Wordstock,” appeared on KBOO radio and hosted the annual “Artists Night Out Spoken Word Festival” at Artists Repertory Theater.
Gaffney’s favorite colors are John Deere Green and Joey Ramone Black. Nowadays, you can often find him wandering the streets of Portland, Ore.

Best of student films April 23
Columbia Center for the Arts presents the Mt. Hood Independent Film Series film compilation, Best of Student Films on Wednesday, April 23. Honoring the children’s art show this is a series of short student films from last Novembers’ Mt. Hood Independent Film Festival student submission category films. Watch winners in the student category “The Talk” and “Volar En Linea Recta,” along with several other outstanding student films. You will be amazed by what these young film makers contributed. None of the films have been rated but all are appropriate for children and adults alike. Showtime 7:30 p.m. tickets are $5 and available at the door. Columbia Center for the Arts is located at 215 Cascade Ave. in downtown Hood River.
