Tour Portland gardens with study groups May 22

OSU Home Extension Services invites the community to join the Mid-Columbia Family and Community Education Study Groups on their annual Spring Tour, set for May 22.

The tour, “Portland’s Glorious Gardens,” will explore the Rose Gardens, Japanese Garden and Chinese Garden. There will be time for touring and shopping at each stop.

Participants will lunch in the Pearl District and make a stop at Voodoo Doughnut for dessert and pre-placed orders before heading home.

Master Gardeners joining the tour will provide detailed information about the horticulture, history, and other facets of each garden in addition to the tour guide information provided.

The cost is $55 for FCE members and $60 for non-members, and includes transportation, entry fees, lunch and gratuity, and membership for non-FCE members.

There will be two pick-up locations: Hood River and Cascade Locks.

The itinerary, subject to change, is as follows:

8 a.m. Depart Best Western Hood River Inn

8:30 a.m. Depart Best Western Columbia River Inn, Cascade Locks

9:30 a.m. Arrive at Int’l Rose Test Garden

11 a.m. Arrive at Portland Japanese Garden

12:45 p.m. Arrive at lunch location (TBD)

2 p.m. Arrive at Lan Su Chinese Garden

3:30 p.m. Arrive at Voodoo Doughnut for pick-up.

4 p.m. Depart Portland

4:45 p.m. Arrive Best Western Columbia River Inn parking lot

5:05 p.m. — Arrive Best Western Hood River Inn

Pre-paid registration is required and must be received by May 15. Registration must be at the extension office on the Hood River OSU Campus at 2990 Experiment Station Road, so you can choose your lunch items, doughnut order and pay your fees. (Registration fee does not include price of doughnuts.)
